NO TROUBLE BREWING.

THE WHITE LION
I was interested to see a Planning Application has been submitted for a Micro Brewery at the old White Lion Public House, Sawley . It's in its early stages yet but it sounds like a good idea to me. Pubs have been having a hard time of late and this special brew could be just the lure needed to make it a successful enterprise. A new attraction in that area would be good for Sawley. (Web Ref 024819 on the EBC's Planning Portal.)

  1. Yes indeed, but what will the brew be called ?

There are some tremendous names given to beers :-

    Hook Norton Hooky Bitter
    Holdens Golden Glow
    Wentwell Derbyshire Gold
Jenning's Snecklifter ( In northern dialect sneck means door latch and a sneck lifter was a man's last sixpence which enabled him to lift the latch of a pub door and buy himself a pint, hoping to meet friends there who might treat him to one or two more )
    Hobsons Twisted Spire
    Wells and Youngs Double Chocolate
    Wentworth Bumble Beer
Rudgate Battleaxe ( named after my ex mother-in-law I assume )

and one of my favourite names for a beer :-

    Brewdog Trashy Blonde

Once a beer is CAMRA approved you could have beer anoraks from all over the country flocking to Sawley.

One name I am not so sure of and that's 'Titanic Stout' for obvious reasons !
