Tarn the Terrier sniffed out this symptom of the sort of junk culture which costs Councils million of pounds in clean up costs each year. Even though a litter bin was less than thirty yards away, some careless dope dropped these junk food wrappers on the highway. Junk food goes along with junk culture and MacDonald's wrappers seem to figure highly in the litter problem. They need to get the message to their customers to use the litter bins, not the street to dump their litter.

A DISGRACE



It's been an uphill battle getting Erewash to get to grips with the problem of litter. I have put in complaint after complaint and it's had some effect. However there are still areas that are prominent in the local street scene but are regularly an eyesore. As you turn into Bennett Street, Long Eaton, either side are areas of private land very badly littered. Other businesses in the area selling food for instance may be detrimentally effected by the image given by this mess. The Council should be hot on the trail of careless landowners.

Where is the pride in Erewash? This sort of mess doesn't happen overnight so why no action by the Council? Could it be Erewash just doesn't care?

My street is again festooned with litter. Yet again I have put in a complaint to Erewash Council and yet again a temporary respite may result. I hope other residents will ring up the Town Hall and complain this is getting passed a joke.

I don't mind doing a bit of sweeping, that is only neighbourly, but I don't fancy doing the whole street! Come on Erewash get the sweepers out ASAP. As Eric Morecambe used to say "What do you think of it so far? Rubbish!"
