FALLING LEA?

BATTLE OF THE BULGE
Rising Lea Industrial Park on Derby Road, Risley, could soon be relabeled "Falling Lea" if something isn't done soon about the retaining wall abutting the footpath. There's enough weight behind this wall to flatten somebody if it toppled. I have asked Erewash Borough Council to take action to make sure this wall is made safe as soon as possible.

  1. Mother nature never intended earth to be retained in this way.

The wall itself looks well constructed and was designed to last with engineering bricks used at capping. From the photo and from Google Earth Street View I am unable to see however any drainage holes at the bottom of the wall, essential to prevent the build up of hydrostatic ( water ) pressure behind the wall. The roots of the trees behind the wall could also be a problem as they can exert up to 200 lb/ sq inch ( in old money ) on the surrounding area. The trees would provide some stability to the earth behind the wall but with the long dry spring the problems appear to have started.

A quick call to Littlewoods, the selling agents, would not go amiss.
